George Katsimpas World Class Pro Boxing Win

Weston warrior George Katsimpas had the toughest test of his career last Saturday at the K2 center in London. George faced the highly rated Gilbert Eastman. Eastman with a record of 25 Fights with 20 wins including13 knock outs is a world class fighter with an extensive boxing pedigree. Eastman a former WBU intercontinental champion, former British commonwealth champion and former British southern area champion had one thing on his mind winning.

This fight was matched to be a test of Georges Boxing ability as Eastman had such a reputation.

George has been training in London at the TKO gym under the watchful eye of Jack Bowers. The gym is home to Tony Oakey British cruiserweight champion Georges sparring partner. George has to spar with heavier opponents due to his heavy hands, which a 5 win 5 KO record supports. George weighed in the day before at 10 stone 13 pounds. Eastman weighed 10 stone 13 ½ pounds.

The Weston fighter entered the ring with lots of support from Weston super mare. Mat Slater from Weston warrior gym organized a coach with help from Stuart Davies. The fans and students from Weston academy had traveled over 3 hours to support George for this fight.

The first round saw George go to work early with excellent combinations catching Eastman with a heavy right hand at the end of the round. If there was another 30 seconds the fight would have been over. Katsimpas kept his composure and went back to work in the second walking his man down. Eastman kept on the defensive and Katsimpas dominated the centre of the ring, in close Katsimpas unloaded some great shots and simply out boxed this class fighter.

The third round saw Eastman come alive he battled and tried to get into the fight. Katsimpas continued to work with a great guard and covered up well and return some heavy shots. Katsimpas was in a comfortable position winning all the rounds so far. The start of the fourth, Katsimpas was caught with a low body shot that sent him to one knee the referee decided to count the Weston boxer. George regained his feet and proceeded to work Eastman leveling the round.

The fifth round again saw some great action with both fighters showing there class. Everything Eastman threw was answered with the same and a bit more securing the round for Katsimpas. The sixth round saw Eastman try and unload some shots in desperation knowing he had been out boxed by the Weston fighter.

The fight was a unanimous decision to Katsimpas. This was a coming of age for the former World champion kickboxer who has had absolutely no amateur boxing experience and was basically ignored by a number of Bristol professional boxing clubs when he was a kickboxer as not having any potential, how wrong they were. He has not only knocked out highly rated fighters but has now out-boxed a fighter in the top ten British rankings.

Weston’s Warrior Gym has its own professional boxing trainers in Mat Slater and Stuart Davies and all standards are welcome at the club from beginner to advanced.

Warrior Gym & WAMA (Weston academy of martial arts and boxing) has its own professional kickboxing and mixed martial arts fight night all set for the 22nd March at Hutton Moor sports centre. George will be a guest at the show and rooting the guys on from the club.
